Images

Mission or location of Images Description
IMAGE satellite gallery This a collection of 22 thumbnail images...taking 3.5 minutes to load. The images are currently of satellite views, sketches and a few examples of simulated data.
SOHO satellite image gallery This page loads in 60 seconds, and links take you to the individual gallery pages of each of the instruments. Many exciting images of the sun in action are available, especially the LASCO 'CME' and EIT 'full-sun' images.
ACE satellite gallery This is a massive page that takes 10.5 minutes to load. It contains 63 thumbnail images for TIFF images with sizes from 1 to 14 megabytes, and about 12 GIF images between 30-300 kby. be patient. Many of these images are of the ACE instruments, but there are some excellent basic science viewgraphs and solar diagrams worth waiting for!
POLR Ultraviolet Imager This page shows the current image of the earth's auroral region from space, but at the bottom of the page there is a link to 'previous images' in an archive. A perfect archive for following the hourly changes in earth's aurora during the past few years.
CRRES satellite pictures Only two pictures of the satellite found here, since the data from the satellite is not in 'image' format.
Human Impacts illustrations from an essay at the IMAGE satellite's POETRY pages. Over 30 figures culled from the web that show how solar storms affect human activity in space, produce electrical power black outs, and disable satellites. An attacted Essay describes past historical, and present events that have been documented.

Movies

Mission or location of movie Description
EIT Solar surface rotation Actual data showing the rotating solar disk and active regions.
IMAGE Data Simulation This is a 9-panel simulation of what each instrument will see as it orbits the earth. (9551 kbytes)
IMAGE Satellite This is a 771kbyte movie of what the Earth looks like as seen from the IMAGE satellite. Animation.
LASCO Coronal Mass Ejections These are data loops of actual images of explosions of plasma from the solar surface and coronal regions.
SOHO Solar Wind Annimation Annimations of SOHO data.
SWAN observations of Comet Hale-Bopp Actual data showing the comet as seen with the ultraviolet, all sky imager.
ULYSSES Animation of the flyby of the satellite around Jupiter.

Sounds

Mission or location of sound Description
POLAR Satellite Sounds from the Magnetosphere. Not actual data taken by the satellite, but obtained by ground-based observers using low-frequency receivers.
The Singing Sun. From the Stanford Solar Physics Center. Data from helioseismometers which measure velocity changes on the solar surface. Velocity data converted to sound.
