Magnetosphere Network

From Students
Students can build a simple magnetometer to detect changes in the Earth's magnetosphere (this is only effective in higher latitudes). Students use the magnetometer to get a better understanding of the Earth's magnetic field. The students work in groups to construct and collect data using a classroom magnetometer. This is meant to provide students with a concrete example of technology used by NASA scientists. NASA scientists use a variety of sources, this is for verification. Students should recognize that they should not depend on a single source to draw a conclusion. Once students have created graphs using magnetometer data they should check their data with observatory and satellite data.

To make your magnetometer, click on the left menu option entitled, "How To Build a Magnetometer", and go to the Design Shop.

To obtain observatory data, click on the left menu option entitled, "From Observatories".

To obtain satellite data, click on the left menu option entitled, "From Satellites".
